My Bitches
My husband and I have 2 beautiful daughters (a border collie and a pit bull) that we just can’t imagine life without. They were also the inspiration for Doghouse Pet Portraits.

Sam is an 11 (!!!) year old Border Collie mix found in a box behind a bar when she was just a couple weeks old. My husband rescued her and she’s been the sweetest, most loyal pet you could imagine ever since. I adopted her about 5 years ago, however it became official this past September once her dad and I got hitched. We are constantly second-guessing the year Shawn found her because we really cannot believe she’s 11. She still has all the energy of a young pup and is usually the instigator for playtime with her 4 year old sister.
…………
Makai is our beautiful little Pit Bull. She is a tiny 45-pound ball of muscle that immediately turns into mush whenever it’s time to cuddle (which is pretty much all the time). She has a tiny head for a Pit, which causes many people to think she’s a Boxer, which for some reason makes me angry. I think I just have a lot of Pit Bull pride. She loves giving kisses, going to the beach and burrowing under blankets. Sometimes she gets a little protective of her parents when we take her on walks (she has to let the big dogs know what’s up) but overall she is such a loveable, affectionate and loyal girl. Without her (and Sam) life would be pretty boring.

Funny thing, I have a Aussie, Hudson who is 4 yrs old and I adopted my daughter’s, Pit Bull, Layla who is 4 1/2 years old. She could no longer keep Layla, so I drove to St. Louis and picked her up and brought her home. At first, I thought I didn’t want to keep her, she has had an eventful past to say the least. She was stolen twice, the 2nd time, my daughter paid a ransome to get her back. She was breeded w/out permission and had 10 beautiful healthy pups. We know at least 3 of them got good homes. (sad) Layla is spade and is very grateful to be in a safe home with a regular routine. Hudson, my aussie and her are like brother and sister now. I love them both like chilkdren.
